Why you got to be so toxic?

When it comes to the online gaming community, toxicity is a
big topic that is always going to talked about. You will always find toxic
players regardless of the game you decide to play. In the article "Can a
video game company tame toxic behavior?"(Link) they use the game League of
Legends as the game they monitored the toxicity seeing the game as well over 60
million players. It’s a given with so many people you will run into the people
who are toxic and badmouth of or harass other players. There are multiple ways
one can be toxic, the most common one used in League of Legends in through text
chat where people will type out what they say.
Other games such as Call of Duty and Overwatch where they
have a voice chat people can verbally harass other players instead of just
typing it down. I can't even count the amount of times I have heard people
calling each other "Bitch" and other words of that nature verbally
just because the person did one little thing wrong. Sexual Harassment is also a
big issue with games that have voice chat is enabled, it has got to the point
for some games that female gamers won't even try to talk or communicate (if
teamwork is needed) because they fear that they will be sexually harassed by
the other players as shown in this video.
I agree with what you said in your post. The gaming community is polluted with toxicity. And as you said, they are not just limited to one game. When you are gaming, you are given a mask and then is no real consequence for the things you say. So a lot of people take advantage of this to act any way they please. So gaming is a place that is sadly known for cyberbullying and it is always something that needs to be addressed.
ReplyDeleteHey Josh, I do agree with your thoughts and research. I have been gaming since I was 9 years old and have seen this throughout my entire gaming experiences across a variety of different online games. It is very common to see these types of behaviors in online gaming communities and it is very frustrating. I can't tell if it is getting better or worse sometimes.
