Figuring out the different ways one can collaborate with others willingly or unwillingly can be pretty tricky to figure out. Some of the more well-known ways to collaborate with others is to knowingly work with others to achieve a specific goal or objective, kind of like a project. Other types of collaborations are the types that are being made without real acknowledgement of it happening which is known as "Aggregation". Examples of these are when you search for something on YouTube, after a while on your homepage there will be an aggregated collaboration of things you have search or could be interested in searching. Another form of collaborating which, to be honest I feel isn't much of a collaboration in my eyes is how the people who created Captcha and Recaptcha are using words from books to get them digitized.(
Ted talk on Captcha/ReCaptcha) Sure it maybe getting a bunch of people to help out with something together, but the people who are doing this don't know this, so how are they collaborating exactly? However even with just those examples there are a bunch of other ways to collaborate, so that brings up the question have you collaborated with anyone or for anything recently?
One thing that I question whether it is collaboration are the teacher evaluation forms that we are asked to fill out at the end of each semester. When we fill out these forms each student is giving the teacher information on areas where they could improve at and where they are already doing aa good job. The thing I question is the intent of the students when they fil these forms out. So do I just for extra credit and some don’t even take it seriously. So because of this I question whether they can be considered collaboration.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the fact that you brought up the Ted Talk on Captcha/ReCaptcha because I sincerely had no idea as to why they had changed the design at all. A lot of these "collaborations" are more one-sided and not everybody is aware of what is going on. A collaboration is more about everyone sharing the initial goal so that the end-result goes in favor of everyone. When it comes to aggregation coming up when we are using the internet is a bit annoying to me because I already know what I'm looking for and I feel that everybody knows to not click on an ad, so the websites that are being posted up on the corners of other sites won't get much attention unless the buyer is desperate.
